Federal Government Postpones Implementation of New Basic School Curriculum to September 2025

*Federal Government Postpones Implementation of New Basic School Curriculum to September 2025*

The Federal Government has announced a postponement in the implementation of the revised basic education curriculum, shifting its rollout from January 2025 to September 2025.

This decision was made public by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during a press conference in Abuja.

The postponement is aimed at ensuring that all necessary preparations are in place before the new curriculum is introduced.

These preparations include training teachers, setting up classrooms, and preparing teachers' guides for the effective implementation of the curriculum.

The revised curriculum is designed to be competency and outcome-based, aligning with the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) initiative.

It includes the introduction of 15 vocational skills such as plumbing, robotics, beekeeping, hairstyling, and solar installation, among others.

The goal is to equip students with practical skills that will prepare them for the challenges of the 21st century and enhance their employability.

Additionally, the government plans to phase out the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), also known as 'Junior WAEC', as part of its broader education reform.

This move is intended to ensure that students have uninterrupted education from primary to senior secondary school, thereby improving their educational outcomes and societal contributions.

The Federal Government is committed to enhancing the quality of education in Nigeria and is working closely with stakeholders to ensure the success of this initiative.
