We will resist political influence in Poly recruitment process - Jugulde By Nick Yashi, Jalingo

We will resist political influence in Poly recruitment process - Jugulde By Nick Yashi, Jalingo

Chairman, Governing Council of the Taraba state Polytechic, Dr. Abubakar Jugulde, has disclosed that the influence of politicians  in staff recruitment was responsible for the general poor standard of the institution and that the council will resist any move by politicians to hijack the process.

While speaking on the proposed recruitment process, the former lawmaker said a memo is already before the governor awaiting approval for the recruitment process to begin.

He lamented the fact that due to the influence of certain politicians in past recruitments, unqualified staff were recruited which was responsible for the non accredition of certain courses.

Jugulde also admitted that lack of facilities and upgrade of existing facilities was responsible for the non accredition of the institution by the National Board for Technical Education.

"Politician were responsible for the poor standard of the school. You see NCE holders and even those with lesser qualification being recruited. This time around we would make sure that the politicians don't hijack the recruitment process.

"Accreditation was not given because the school has not met the conditions set by the NBTE. Facilities need to be put in place or upgraded," he stated.

The Taraba state Polytechnic, established in 1991, remains one of the oldest state tertiary institutions. Despite that, it remains among the most neglected by government and in the process contributing to its very low standard.
